Our clients are urgently seeking to recruit a
Locum Band 6 Specialist Children's Speech and Language Therapist to join their
Children's Integrated Therapy Team.
Hours: Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm
 
JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will be part of the Children’s Integrated Therapy team, providing specialist Speech and Language Therapy to children and young people up to the age of 19 with impaired speech, language, and communication development in a range of settings including homes, clinics and schools. He/she will have responsibility for their own caseload, as an autonomous practitioner, adapting their approach to meet the needs of the child / young person.
They will work with the Children’s SLT Team Leads to ensure an efficient, high quality therapy service is delivered which is evidence-based and centred around the needs of the child/young person.
They will provide line management and clinical leadership for qualified and non-qualified staff working at lower grades. They will work in partnership with other members of the multi- disciplinary team including Education, Social and Health Care, and external stakeholders to deliver recommended provision and to achieve optimum outcomes for children and young people.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your work including prioritising work.
  • To clinically triage children and young people to identify clinical need, prioritisation, appropriate assessment and therapeutic intervention.
  • To provide specialist and comprehensive speech and Language therapy assessment for children / young people referred to the Service, for a range of clinical presentations within scope of competence. This will involve gathering, interpreting and evaluating highly complex information from a variety of sources, using evidence-based therapy outcome measures and analysing the child’s needs using skilled problem-solving approaches.
  • To independently make differential diagnoses on the basis of evidence from assessment and to develop clear care plans embedded in evidence base and aligned with Children’s SLT Clinical Pathways.
  • To formulate, implement, evaluate and adapt individualised treatment or management programmes for children / young people on the caseload, taking the child’s and families goals into consideration and using clinical reasoning skills and support from senior staff.
  • To provide advice, including writing reports, to others regarding the management and care of children / young people on the caseload with speech/language/communication and/or feeding difficulties within the scope of their competence.
  • Contribute to the SEND process (EHCNA / EHCP / Annual Review / SENDIST Appeals) by providing assessment, reports, input to reviews as required, being an expert witness at SENDIST Hearing.

  • To attend clinical meetings and case conferences as appropriate being the advocate of the child/young person and providing specialist Speech and Language Therapy information and advice.
  • To participate in the development and delivery of training (formal and informal) to families, settings, Education, Health, Social Care and other relevant partners.
  • To actively engage in the implementation of national and local clinical guidelines/specialist care pathways, informed by evidence-based knowledge and best practice. To feedback to the Team Lead the impact of these on own caseload.
  • To delegate appropriate tasks to Children’s Therapy Assistant Practitioners / Technical Instructors providing training and clinical support as required.
  • To line manage and supervise Children’s Speech and Language Therapists, Children’s Assistant practitioner/s and or Children’s Therapy Technical Instructors
  • To support AHP work experience and student placements within the Service and be involved in their Clinical Education including exam placements.
  • To record and maintain up to date and accurate clinical records using the trust electronic system in line with relevant professional standards, local trust policies and service guidelines.
